Jakarta, March 16, 2016 – The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has launched a series of National Inquiry Books on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (Masyarakat Hukum Adat – MHA) over their customary territories. The results and recommendations from this National Inquiry are compiled in publications expected to make a positive contribution to conflict resolution. Moreover, the model from this National Inquiry can be developed to resolve other cases structured similarly to the MHA theme and their customary territories. For academic purposes, the results and recommendations are expected to serve as valuable material for further academic discourse development. For the government, it is hoped to serve as a foundation for policy formulation and comprehensive resolution of MHA cases and their customary territories.
Amidst various human rights issues today, Komnas HAM remains confident that Indonesia will continue to evolve into a nation that respects and protects human rights seriously.
