Legal Education News from Palopo, South Sulawesi

PHR Palopo 2

The process of change that occurred after the reform barely had any impact on society. This can be seen in our daily lives. To make changes regarding all the phenomena above, it is necessary to unite and gather in one container, whether it is an association, brotherhood, group, or others. On the other hand, we also need to build synergy among different organizational communities. Considering that our cries so far seem like mosquito noises to the rulers. Through People’s Legal Education, it becomes one of the alternative approaches to support the movement for change in the name of justice.

The implementation of activities of the People’s Legal Education School is carried out at two campuses, Andi Jemma University (UNANDA) and the State Islamic Institute (STAIN), Palopo and STAIN Palopo. This activity is more dialogical because it emphasizes reading social realities by looking at their legal aspects. The theme of the activity at the STAIN campus is “State Responsibility and Human Rights Violations“, while the theme at UNANDA is titled “The Law Reform Movement for Justice“. This discussion is facilitated by Sainal Abidin from the Wallacea Association, Palopo, and involves legal practitioners. The activity received significant appreciation from the student groups with a large number of participants involved in the discussion. Approximately fifty participants attended the discussion. In each dialogue session, the committee prepared discussion materials such as regulations governing human rights and several writings from the Community-Based and Ecological Law Reform Association HuMa members, such as the writings of Herlambang Perdana Wiratraman and Prof. Soetandyo Wignyosoebroto related to constitutionalism and state responsibility.

From the interactive dialogue activities carried out at STAIN and UNANDA Palopo, there are several important points that need to be followed up, including conducting these activities continuously and hoping that future activities can involve various groups to broaden the discussion discourse.
