HuMa Member Profile

 

The Indonesian Legal Resource Center (HuMa) is a non-governmental organization established on October 19, 2001, under the name of the Association for Community-Based and Ecological Law Reform. HuMa focuses on legal reform work, primarily in the field of natural resources, emphasizing the recognition of the rights of indigenous and local communities over natural resources, the diversity of social/cultural and legal systems in the ownership and management of natural resources, and the preservation of ecological sustainability. It advocates for values such as human rights, social justice, cultural diversity, ecosystem sustainability, respect for people’s capabilities, and collectivism.

HuMa’s members come from various backgrounds including academics, legal practitioners, government officials, and legal aid providers. They reside in several provinces in Indonesia, such as West Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Jakarta. The number of HuMa members at its establishment was 18 individuals, which has now grown to 25 members.
