Pulau Padang has recently captured public attention. The island, located in the district of Kepulauan Meranti, Riau, has received special attention from forestry stakeholders following the sewing of mouths and setting up of tents by some Pulau Padang residents in front of the People’s Representative Council (DPR) building in Jakarta. Dozens of residents who are part of the Pulau Padang Community Communication Forum for Conservation (FKMP3) protested against the issuance of an expansion permit for the industrial timber plantation (HTI) concession to PT. Riau Andalas Pulp and Paper (RAPP).
