The Kapuas Protected Forest Management Unit (KPHL) Model is one of the important locations to be assessed in examining potential conflicts. KPH Kapuas is one of the earliest Model KPHs established when the decentralization policy of forest area management was carried out by the Ministry of Forestry.
As a Model KPH from the Ministry of Forestry, the assessment of KPH Kapuas serves as a reflection and the best evaluation material for the Ministry of Forestry in achieving the target of establishing 120 KPHs by 2014. Moreover, almost the entire area of KPHL Kapuas overlaps with the Kalimantan Forest Climate Partnership (KFCP)-initiated REDD+ Demonstration Activities area.
Widianto from the Law Renewal and Conflict Resolution Program, HuMa Association, conducted an assessment and analysis related to potential tenurial conflicts in the REDD+ Demonstration Activities in KPHL Kapuas. The report highlights several key issues related to the REDD+ Demonstration Activities in KPHL Kapuas, which should prompt a multi-stakeholder meeting of KPH stakeholders – including KFCP – to comprehensively explain land tenure by the Kapuas Model KPH for clarity in the future.
