The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a Human Rights record of all UN members made every four years. This process aims to encourage and provide an opportunity for each country to state what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situation in their country to fulfill their human rights obligations. Besides the Reports from UN member countries, Civil Society from these UN member countries also have the opportunity to submit UPR reports.
The Association of Indonesian Legal Aid Institutes (HuMa) is involved in the preparation of two UPR reports to be presented at the end of 2022, namely:
- General report together with 23 (twenty-three) Civil Society Organizations in Indonesia coordinated by HRWG (Human Rights Working Group), namely: ELSAM, Cedaw Working Group Indonesia, YAPPIKA-ActionAid, Solidaritas Perempuan, GaYa Nusantara, Kalyanamitra, KAPAL Perempuan, YLBHI, LBH Jakarta, Save the Children Indonesia, FIAN Indonesia, National Coalition of Child Rights Monitoring NGOs, Yayasan Cahaya Guru, KontraS, Arus Pelangi, SKPKC Franciscan Papua, Protection Desk Indonesia, WALHI, Lapor Covid-19, Yayasan IPAS Indonesia, The JALA PRT, and Yayasan Amalshakira. This report covers 10 (ten) issues including indigenous peoples, education, child rights, freedom of assembly and association, women’s rights, right to health and the Covid-19 pandemic, freedom of expression, environment and natural resources, HRDs – Human Rights Defenders, and past serious human rights violations.
- UPR on the issue of Human Rights Defenders, together with 7 (seven) other civil society organizations consisting of KontraS, YLBHI, HRWG, ELSAM, IMPARSIAL, Yayasan Kemitraan, and Protection Desk Indonesia.
